Here's an example report from my Ecobee 3 (third generation) that shows how AirCompare took control of the temperature setting during the night, dripping the target temperature for air conditioning when electric rates dropped in the 1-2AM hour.

Here's an example where the electric rate dropped briefly into the negative. This happens fairly often on warm summer mornings when, presumably, my supplier (ComEd) brings capacity online in anticipation of higher loads during the day.
